Campus Update

Due to the expected impacts of Hurricane Helene, Gordon State College will close at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 26, and remain closed through Friday, Sept. 27.

We will continue to monitor developments through the National Weather Service.

Housing & Residence Life: For those who remain on campus, HRL will communicate important updates via email and in person to ensure all residents are informed.

HRL will implement necessary weather-related procedures to maintain safety within our residence halls. Students remaining on campus are reminded to consider the following:

  • Charge all electronic devices.
  • Have a flashlight available.
  • Keep proper weather-related clothing on hand (raincoat, boots, umbrella, etc.).
  • Ensure enough non-perishable food and water are available to last at least two days.
  • Secure and stay away from windows.

In the event of severe weather conditions, students will be advised to take cover on the first floor of their respective buildings, away from windows.

Dining Services: Highlander Hall will serve breakfast and lunch at the regular times on Thursday, with dinner available from 4:30-6:00 p.m., offering a limited menu of hotdogs and hamburgers. A to-go option will be available for dinner.

Friday, September 27, 2024, Highlander Hall will be offering a to-go brunch option only from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dinner service will continue as usual unless further updates are provided.

Regular hours will resume on Saturday and Sunday unless any changes arise.

Starbucks will close at 2 p.m. on Thursday and remain closed on Friday. Citizen Chicken and Uptown Sam’s in the SARC will also be closed Thursday and Friday.

Student Life & Recreation: The intramural volleyball game and Highlander House activities scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 26 will be cancelled. Additionally, the Student Activities and Recreation Center (SARC) will be closed for the duration of the campus closure.
