Gordon State College Theater Presents The Gift of the Magi Starting Wednesday

The holiday season officially opens Wednesday with the heart-warming Gordon State College Theater production of The Gift of the Magi.

Veteran actors, Tara Barfield and Travis Shipley play Della and Jim Dillingham who, with very little money but deep love for each other, struggle to find the perfect Christmas gift for each other.

Barfield describes the musical, which is based on the story by O. Henry, as "fun, and charming.

Other cast members include:

Dillan Smith as street bum Soapy Smith whose main goal is to get arrested in order to spend a night out of the cold. Carolyn Pipkin and Logan Fagin are city residents, and Obasi Johnson is Willy Porter, the narrator of the show.

"The director, Rhonda Wooley, assistant professor of theater, and I both love the short story and we've wanted to put on a great holiday play for a long time, said Tony Pearson, technical director of the musical. "It's a family friendly production that we think everyone will love."

The musical runs from Nov. 5 through 8 with doors opening at 7 and performances at 7:30 p.m. The production closes with a matinee on Sunday, Nov. 9 at 2 pm.

Tickets are available at the door, $7 for adults, $6 senior citizens, $5 students, and $4 each for members of groups of 10 or more. Admission is free for Gordon students, staff and faculty.
