John D. Head Named Vice President for Enrollment Management and Student Services

Gordon State College President Kirk A. Nooks announced Wednesday that John D. Head, Ed.D. has been named Vice President for Enrollment Management and Student Affairs.

As Vice President for Enrollment Management and Student Affairs, Head will be responsible for providing strategic and innovative leadership as Gordon’s Chief Student Affairs Officer. He will also lead, oversee, organize, and direct Gordon’s enrollment management strategy and the student affairs programs, activities, operations and services which include admissions, recruitment, registrar, student engagement, student activities, counseling and accessibility services, residence life, athletics, and the student activities and recreation center.

“I am delighted that Dr. John Head decided to join the Gordon State College family,” Nooks said. “His background and expertise in enrollment management will be received well, and his student-focused approach will help to nurture an engaging campus experience for years to come.”

Head was most recently the Vice President for  Enrollment Management at Loyola University New Orleans.

Head has served as associate vice president of enrollment management at the University of West Georgia and vice president of enrollment management at Shorter University in Rome, Ga.; dean of students, dean of institutional advancement, and director of admissions at Tennessee Wesleyan College in Athens, Tenn. He also taught speech and communication courses at Shorter University, Tennessee Wesleyan, and Shorter College.

Head holds a bachelor’s degree in mass communication from Shorter College, a master’s degree in broadcast management from the University of Georgia, and a doctorate in educational administration and policy studies from the University of Tennessee.

He is a graduate of the University System of Georgia’s Executive Leadership Institute; Leadership Rome; and The Fundraising School at Indiana University – Purdue University Indianapolis.

Head will join the campus community on Aug. 20.
