The Gordon State College Theater will end its season with "An Evening of Original One Acts," a collection of 10-minute, one-act plays written and directed by students.
"This is the first time acting for a majority of these students, and the first time writing a play for all of them," says Laura King, associate professor of theater at Gordon State.
The students are from King's theater colloquium.
"This colloquium has been impressive to me. It's the dedication of these students, both inside and outside the classroom that I'm seeing. They are all very determined," King added.
The students were assigned to develop, write, cast, and produce their own work. King acted as a facilitator and allowed the work to develop organically. When completed, the class voted on what would be presented.
"A friend told me about this class but failed to mention my having to perform in front of the whole college," says Koi Zellers, a sophomore science major. "Surprisingly, I'm very excited. I'm looking forward to being dramatic on stage. "
"It's been very interesting working with and seeing how Laura King is as a director," said Zak Williams, a sophomore theater major. "I've be a part of quite a few plays here at Gordon, but this is totally different. My classmates have risen to the challenge."
The production runs April 8 through 11 at 7:30 p.m. and April 12, at 2 p.m.
Tickets are available at the door, $7 for adults, $6 senior citizens, $5 students, and $4 each for members of groups of 10 or more.
