The College Reading and Learning Association has granted Gordon State's tutor training program Level 1 certification through its International Tutor Training Program Certification review board.
"This is the culmination of years of hard work and perseverance," said Peter Higgins, director of Student Success, Advising and Testing and instructor of English.
The ITTPC certifies post-secondary education tutor training programs and authorizes those programs to certify trained tutors who have completed all the certification requirements.
The following SSC tutors have met all the requirements: Amy Droegmiller, James Rick, Joseph Nestor, Ornella Oluwole, Sara Midyett, Ashley Smith, Amanda Davis and Andrea Fields.
Several other tutors are close to completing the certification requirements.
"We have always put a high priority on tutor training and feel we do a pretty good job with it, but it's nice to receive this validation from the CRLA," said Higgins. "We will continue to work as hard as we can to train our tutors so that they can provide the best help possible to students."
