As friends, family and fellow students looked on, the Tau Alpha Tau Chapter of Beta Beta Beta, the national honors society for biology students, recently held its annual induction ceremony.

Five new regular members were welcomed, Annastacya Carey, Kennedy Hollingsworth, Abigail Mixon, Peyton Rogers, and Miranda Sears and one associated member, Savannah Moerman, were inducted.

The current executives, President Ami Jo Davis, Secretary Leigha Henson, Treasurer Riley Fuller, and Historian Annastacya Carey, performed the induction ceremony, and Dr. Linda Hyde escorted the new members.

The students who are selected for membership in Tri-Beta must meet stringent requirements, according to one of the group’s advisors, Amanda Duffus.

“Membership in TriBeta is an honor that our students can be very proud of,” said Advisor Dr. Amanda Duffus. “Our members all exhibit excellence in their studies of biology and many of them are highly involved in student life at GSC.”

The purpose of Tri-Beta is to encourage the understanding and appreciation of biology and to help push forward the limits of human biological knowledge through research.

The Tau Alpha Tau chapter of Tri-Beta was started in 2011 with 25 charter members. The current advisors are Dr. Duffus and Prof. Trisha Walker.
