Construction on the Gordon State College Student Services Center is on target for a late May opening.
Members of the GSC Foundation had the opportunity to tour the facility Wednesday.
"The purpose of our Student Services Center is to centralize the key enrollment functions for our future and current Highlanders," GSC President Kirk A. Nooks said. “This will be a special place throughout their college journey; we plan for it to be an open, welcoming space.”
The 11,271 square-foot building at the corner of College Drive and Spencer Street, will feature desktop and laptop computer stations, a waiting room for parents and a meeting room that can accommodate seating for 60 or be used for events that require open space. Sliding glass partitions offer privacy while still allowing natural light and an open feel.
“I’m very impressed with the concept and design of the building,” said GSC Foundation Chair Phillip Bell. “It is a one-stop-shop for our students and their parents. We can entertain groups on recruiting visits, offer seminars and provide all the services they need in one place.”
The admissions office, financial aid office, and other offices will be located in the building.
The University System of Georgia Board of Regents allocated funding for the $3 million project from its minor capital projects budget.
The building's design is by JMA Architecture, Interiors, Planning, Perry, Ga. Benning Construction Company, Atlanta, is in charge of construction.
