The Bach Society of Atlanta, in cooperation with Gordon State College, is presenting a concert to remember a former faculty member.
The concert, a tribute to the late Doris Watson, is Friday, April 22 at 3 p.m. in the Student Center Auditorium. It kicks off Gordon's annual Alumni Weekend.
Bach Society of Atlanta President John Johnson attended the high school division of Gordon Military College from 1969 to 1970 and is currently an adjunct professor in the School of Education. He says Watson was one of his all-time favorite teachers and he wanted to honor the impact she had on his life.
Watson began teaching at Gordon Grammar School while a student at Tift College. She later taught English Literature in the High School Division of Gordon Military College before retiring from Thomaston's R.E. Lee Institute in 1985. She passed away in 2014.
The concert will feature three soloists, soprano Shala Whitehead, tenor Khary Wilson and Victoria Wilson who will perform selections by Vivaldi, Handel and Bach.
The event kicks off Gordon's annual Alumni Weekend.
Parking for the concert will be available in the lot adjacent to the Nursing and Allied Health Sciences building on Spencer Street and the lot behind the Welcome Center at the corner of Spencer and College Drive. Admission is free and the public is invited.
