More than 200 alumni are expected to return to the campus of Gordon State College for the annual Alumni Weekend April 22-24.

"We always look forward to having everyone return to campus," said Rhonda Toon, a Gordon alumna and Vice President of Institutional Advancement. "It is a great weekend that allows our alumni from near and far to come together to catch up with each other and renew friendships."

The weekend begins Friday, April 22 at 3 with the Bach Society of Atlanta presenting a concert as "A Tribute to Mrs. Doris Watson." The concert is free and will be held in the Fine Arts Theatre.

Watson taught at the Gordon Grammar School while a student at Tift. She later taught English literature in the High School Division of Gordon Military College before a long career at R.E. Lee Institute in Thomaston. She passed away in 2014. Gordon alumnus John Johnson is president of The Bach Society of Atlanta and is bringing the concert to campus to honor Watson who he says greatly influenced his life.

On Saturday alumni will be able to tour campus, enjoy the Student-Faculty Art Show and enjoy a picnic lunch in the courtyard of the Alumni House. The Class of 1956 will have a special 60th Reunion Luncheon in a reserved section of the courtyard.

In the evening all registered alumni are invited to enjoy music by "Junkshun" and a barbecue meal in Highlander Dining Hall.

A farewell breakfast is Sunday morning from 8 to 10 in the Student Center Atrium.

Participating alumni can register and check-in Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Alumni House on Stafford Avenue.
