The Gordon State College Music Program and Gordon State Community Education are teaming up to offer students, community members, and area high school students the opportunity to become a member of The Highlander Big Band.

The Band will feature music of the Big Band era, including Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey, and others.

Experience with big band music and the ability to improvise is desired, but not necessary.

"We are looking for performers on trumpet, trombone, tenor and baritone sax, piano, bass, guitar and drums," said Neil Boumpani, associate professor of music and band director. "Other instrumentalists are also welcome."

Rehearsals are Tuesday evenings from 6:30 to 8:30 in room 116 of the Fine Arts Building starting Aug. 18.

There is a Community Education fee for this class of $25 for students and $50 for non-students.

For more information about the band, contact Boumpani at: nboumpani@gordonstate.edu or 678-359-5299.

"This is a great opportunity to improve your skills, meet other musicians and really have some fun," said Boumpani.
