Information Session Saturday at Gordon State at McDonough

An information session is slated for Saturday at the McDonough campus of Gordon State College for students interested in classes held in McDonough and for those interested in Weekend College.

The session is 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Henry County Academy for Advanced Studies, 401 East Tomlinson St., adjacent to Henry County High School.

Prospective students who apply to Gordon State during their visit will have their application fees waived.

"It's a great time to learn about the classes offered at Gordon State at McDonough," said Ric Calhoun, director of the McDonough campus. "We will have staff on hand who can answer a variety of questions."

Students can also get information on Weekend College for Human Services majors.

Designed for adult learners who are trying to complete their degree Adult learners can earn a bachelor's degree in human services at an accelerated pace through participation in Weekend College. Classes are held one weekend per month at Gordon State at McDonough with the remaining coursework completed online.

"Unlike traditional college degree programs, Weekend College may assign up to 24 credit hours of prior learning acquired through work experience, educational experience, workplace training or courses that did not carry college credit," said Program Coordinator Melinda Hawley, associate professor of Human Services, Business and Public Service. "The human services bachelor's degree prepares students for a wide variety of occupations in a fast-growing and diverse field."

Major employers of human services degree holders include state and local governments and a variety of non-government organizations.
