Professional Learning Units (PLU’s) for Teachers
WHAT IS A PLU?
The Professional Learning Unit (PLU) is a means for teachers and administrators to show recorded completion of courses to support the objectives granted by the Georgia Board of Education. One PLU represents 10 contact hours of instruction. CLASS ATTENDANCE IS MANDATORY. In order to receive PLU credit, you MUST attend all class hours. It is the student’s responsibility to inform the instructor of any absences and to make arrangements for make-up work.
WHAT COURSES ARE AVAILABLE?
At the present time, the Georgia Department of Education approved courses are available online through Ed2go. Each course counts for 2 PLUs. A passing grade of 80 percent is required to receive your certificate of completion and PLU credit. To enroll in one of our online classes, visit Ed2go at www.ed2go.com/gsc.
ARE THERE ANY FORMS TO COMPLETE?
Yes, a Prior Approval Form for each class will need to be completed before the course begins. If a person is not currently employed in a school system, they will still need to complete the form without a supervisor’s signature and return to our office. We also are able to accept the prior approval form utilized by other school system in the state of Georgia.
Once the student has successfully completed the course objectives, exercises and final exam, they will then complete the Course Completion Form. All courses will be verified through GSC Community Education which includes the verification of the online courses through Ed2go administrative site.
