The Department of history and political science

"History is for human self-knowledge. Knowing yourself means knowing, first, what it is to be a person; secondly, knowing what it is to be the kind of person you are; and thirdly, knowing what it is to be the person you are and nobody else is. Knowing yourself means knowing what you can do; and since nobody knows what they can do until they try, the only clue to what humans can do is what humans have done.
The value of history, then, is that it teaches us what humans have done and thus what humans are."

There are several degree options in the Department of HIstory and Political Science at Gordon State:

Or,  you may want to dig deep and find out more about the history in our surrounding area with a hands-on History Internship which counts as an upper-division course for history majors or as an upper-division elective for non-history majors.   If you are interested and have your advisor's approval, fill out this History Internship Application with your attached Academic Summary from Banner Web.  This  History Internship Form should be  filled out by your supervising history faculty member. Some recent internships include: Barnesville's Old Jail Museum and Archives; Hightower LCC Library at Gordon State ; Griffin-Spalding County Archives; and The Freedom Foundation/Something New in Selma, AL.  Let us know if you would like to take advantage of these or other history internship opportunities.
